The Principle Of Receiving From God Through Thanksgiving.
                                                 By Wale Fatoye

Psalm 95:2 says Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful
noise unto him with psalms

While Psalm 100:4 reads Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with
praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

Philippians 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with
thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

Thank according to the dictionary is an act of gratitude or appreciation of a gesture one
offer to one another. In the Christendom, thanksgiving is a means of appreciating, showing
gratitude or singing praises to our maker “God”

The bible made us to know that in thanking God for what He has done and that which he is
yet to do make him do more in our life. It also gives us the knowledge the only way to enter
God presence is through thanksgiving, this you can see in the three bible verses above. But
it is strange to know that though Christians know that the only way to enter God’s
presence is through thanksgiving but many still lack the principle of using thanks to receive
from God.

You can thank God from morning to night but yet not receive from God if you do not go
through the right way of giving thanks. Let’s quickly look at some of the ways you can use
your thanks to get answer from God

Open heart
According to
I Sam. 16:7  But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance,
or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man
seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.

Pro 23:7  says For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but
his heart is not with thee

Mat 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

The three verses above is trying to tell us that in giving thanks to God you must come with
open or pure heart, as only those that come to him with open and pure heart when giving
thanks will receive from Him. Abraham was able to win God’s favor because he was
willing to give his only son to God as offering.  God saw that  he was doing it with a pure
and open heart even when it was so painful to do.

Openness before God means being naked before Him spiritually.
Gen 2:25 illustrated this
point vividly by saying   And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not
ashamed when you are naked before God it means you have nothing to hide just like Adam
and Eve was before they lost favor with God.

Naked in
Gen 2: 25 is not a physical nakedness but a spiritual one which symbolizes
humility  or pureness, so in giving thanks to God you must come with open heart so you
can receive from God. David the king danced to God and became naked in public. His wife
that said something bad about David’s nakedness was caused by God and she was the only
woman that was barren in the bible, this show how much God appreciate giving thanks
with an open heart.

Cheerfulness
2Cor. 9:7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly,
or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

This verse is telling us that anytime we want to give to God we must not give grudgingly as
if we are forced to do so, we must give cheerfully to God and this relate to the above as
only one with an open heart can give cheerfully.

Faith
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that
he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Heb 11:6

Mat 21:22 And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

Without faith it is so difficult to receive from God. In giving thanks we must give it with
faith that we will receive because there is no point doing what you don’ belief in, God does
not require from a very big faith but one as small as a mustard seed. So give thanks with
faith and you will receive from God.

Love

Pro 10:12 Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins
1Cor. 13:13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is
charity.
Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness,
faith

The bible tells us that God Himself is LOVE and He dwell where there is love and only love
can bring peace. A peaceful mind is a cheerful mind and only a mind that really at peace
that can give praises to God with an open heart so in giving thanks to God you must have
love and give with love. God in one of the Ten Commandments giving to Moses,
commands us to love one another. A loving heart receives more from God than a heart full
of hatred.

Humility

Psa 34:2 My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be
glad.

Rom 12:16 Be of the same mind toward one another. Mind not high things, but condescend
to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits

1Pet. 5:6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt
you in due time:

Mat 5:5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

The bible says pride leads to destruction while humility exalts. Humility simply means not
living in pride or being arrogant in nature.  A humble heart while thanking God will surely
receive from Him. God described Moses as man that is so humble
Num 12:3 (Now the
man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.

If these principles are applied during thanksgiving to God you shall surely receive from Him
because He has always told us that when we ask we shall receive
Mat 7:7 Ask, and it shall
be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

God blessed you as you learn to give thanks in a right way.
