THE LOT IN YOUR LIFE
By Wale Fatoye
Published March 14, 2008

Many Christians are in the world thinking God has forgotten about them. Some are so
confused that they are going round the same circle several times. Some are not sure where the
wind of life will blow them. Some are stationary.  While some have a case of one step
forward, two steps backward. The life of some are so messed up, that they are even asking
God why He created them to this world, like the children of Israel were asking Moses why he
brought them out of the land of Egypt.

I believe that after reading this message you will rediscover yourself and you will cry no more.
In the book of Genesis chapter 12:1 God told Abram to leave his father’s land and move to a
land that He will show him; and in that same land He will bless him and make him father of
many nations.

In verse 4 of the same chapter the bible told us Abram yielded to God's order and left his
father’s land. But instead of leaving alone, he left with his cousin, Lot. Abram and Lot lived
together in their new land, but the story was still the same in Abram's life. Instead of Abram to
start living God's promise, his life is stagnant. Lot and Abram’s men were always at war with
each other. Even, God’s promise of blessing Abram with a child seemed not to be coming to
fulfillment.

In this chapter, we read about how Abram left his fathers house at the age of seventy-five.
Abram and Lot lived together for about fifteen years without God's promise coming to pass.
Being a God who does not fail on his words, one may wonder, why? Simple answer, God's
plans for Abram did not include Lot. Lot was an extra or an unwanted luggage in Gods plan
and so for God to fulfill His promises, Abram must throw out his excess luggage.

In chapter 13:14, Lot’s departure marked a complete turn around in Abram's life and fortune.
The bible told us that God appeared to Abram and asked him to lift up his eyes and see as far
as he could and He promised to give it to him. Right there, Abram start enjoying the promises
of God for his life. The question here is why did God do this?  The answer is that God noticed
some level of disobedience in Abram. His plan for Abram did not include Lot and anything that
is not of God CANNOT be included in His plans and also, being a God who knows all and
could tell the future, He knew that Lot's family would eventually be a bad  influence on
Abram's son, Isaac. Remember that Lot had two wives and daughters who drank excessively
and made their father drunk to make love to them. Should they still live with Abram, they
would have had a negative impact on Isaac’s growth and development in the ways of the Lord.

Just like Abram, some of us, Christians, today are carrying excess luggage in our lives and still
asking God to fulfill His plan for us. It is my candid view and opinion that God will not do it
until we let go all Lots in our lives.  With your Lot's departure, God will fulfill His promise in
your live.

Some have their friends as Lots. To some, it is their work. It could be one of your habits or it
could even be some or all of your family members that you have to move away from. You
might even need to relocate yourself; remember God have to relocate Abram before blessing
him.

I hope and pray that after reading this message your eyes will open to the Lot in your life and
have the courage  to say leave my life, depart from me so that God’s plan for me may come to
pass. God bless you.
