After several months of going underground apparently to evade arrest by the Operatives of the
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC.), the daughter of the former Nigeria
president Sen. Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello has been ordered to remain in police custody over the
ministry of health’s 300 million naira scam

Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, who is a chairman of the senate committee on health allegedly
collected 10 million naira out for the controversial money to organize a retreat for members of
senate committee on health in Ghana

Since the story broke, the senator from Ogun has been fighting a severe political battle to
exonerate herself from the scams, whereas many officials of the Ministry of health including
the minister Prof. Grange are currently facing trial over their involvement in sharing the money.

On Monday a preliminary objection to the two-count charge against Iyabo was dismissed by
Justice Garba Salisu, ruling that the senator  must face trial like others who are facing similar
charges.

She faces two count-charge of stealing 10 million naira belonging to the federal government of
Nigeria punishable under section 317 of the Penal Code Act Cap 352, Laws of the Federal
Republic of Nigeria, Abuja.

Her counsel, Mr. Bankole Akomolafe, also argued unsuccessfully to secure a bail for the
senator in an oral application after the judge ruled that sen. Iyabo Obasanjo should be detained
in police custody.

The judge asked her counsel Mr Akomolafe to bring a written bail application to the court
when it reconvenes later today (Tuesday).

Reports say Sen. Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello wept in court when the judge ruled that she should
remain in custody until a written bail application is presented before the court for consideration

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had charged the immediate Health
Minister, Prof Adenike Grange; her deputy, Architect Gabriel Yakubu Aduku; and 11 others
on a 56-count charge of graft involving about N300 million.
