DID THE ARMY ARMED THE MILITANTS IN ORDER TO DESTABILIZE THE NIGER
DELTA REGION?
We find it hard to believe that most of the sophisticated weapons in which the militants and
hoodlums in Niger Delta have been using to terrorize and maim our people and made life
brutish and bestial in the Region is alleged to be supplied by the Military through some of its
greedy military officers that has being supplying arms illegally to the Militants in order to
keep the region at war and unstable.
As much as we praise the relevant authorities that have expose the mystery through which
most of these militants groups are armed, we will like to state that all the funds in the
accounts of these greedy and agents of destabilization in our area should not only be duly
punished but the said fund found in their bank accounts returned to the region particularly
to the families and communities that have lost their dear ones through the activities of
militancy in the region though no amount of money can bring back the lives lost so far in
the region or the irredeemable image of the region so dented by this inhuman act.
We must commend President Yar’Adua who has proven that he is the lost but found
brother of the Niger Delta region for authorizing the investigation of this wicked plot to
keep our region in constant tumor that has made us the laughing stock before the entire
world.
The President, as we are meant to understand ordered the investigations following a
discovery by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Luka Yusuf, that many of the
arms and ammunition that the militant groups were using to kill soldiers of the Joint Task
Forces in the Niger Delta were similar to those in the army armoury at Kaduna . General
Yusuf has by this singular act proved that he not only merited the office of the Chief of
Army Staff but that he is a lover and protector of the Niger Delta region.
We will like to reiterate that apart from normal army investigations, effort should be made
to unravel the unseen hands in this culpable plot to annihilate our people by arming these
militants that have made our area a war zone. The army should also assist the region to mop
up all the ammunitions in the region in order to stop immediately the carnage currently
going on in the area.
Finally, we commend the current efforts of Governor Amaechi to restore sanity and peace
in Rivers State and wish to assure him of our unalloyed support to make Rivers State the
ideal and most developed State in Nigeria .
