The Lagos State chapter of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Primary is underway at the popular Onikan stadium, Lagos Island as well as other States of the Federation.
AFRICAN EXAMINER Correspondent reports that party delegates, from the 20 local government areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDA) totaling 3,000, have arrived the venue and accreditation is currently ongoing.
Our man confirmed that delegates accreditation would end in about 1:30 pm Nigerian time and the voting proper would commence immediately.
A total of 12 aspirants, including the former State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Olasupo Shashore; Former state Accountant General, Akin Ambode; Senator Ganiyu Solomon; Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hanzat; Formers State Health Commissioners, Dr. Leke Pitan and Tola Kasali and four others are vying for the incumbent Governor Babatunde Fashola’s seat.
Mr Sashore and Ambode are widely speculated to be the candidates of the incumbent Governor Fashola and former Governor Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, respectively.
The Lagos State APC Chairman, Henry Ajomale in his remarks at the Primary, urged the aspirants and delegates to allow peace to reign while the exercise lasted, adding that all the aspirants possess the qualities to govern the State. The chairman of the primary, Peter Obadan also spoke in the same vein.
