The women through their Leader, Dr. Wele stated “we the entire members of the Women wing of Action Congress
wish to say congratulations and a big thank you for your wisdom for accepting to run a unity government with our
great Governor, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi. In fact, you are just too much, you made us proud. You have
proved to the people that age is not maturity or wisdom.
When you mentioned Unity Government, initially with the present government, we were imagining how it would
work out with the systems of politics in this country but you have proved that the Unity Government in Rivers State
is a reality. We believe that you used the discretion and wisdom from God to make our party and the opposing
political parties in Rivers State to come together to contribute to the unity, socio-economic development and
emancipation of our people. What a great idea from a great mind! We are just proud of you and we know you still
have more to do to move the State forward, the Lord is your strength in this regard.
Our Leader, it may interest you to note that the present leadership of the Women Wing of AC has initiated a weekly
prayer and fasting meeting every Monday at the State Secretariat of the party involving over 500 women to pray for
you, Governor Amaechi and the peace of the State and this has continued to unite us and bring more godly women
in our midst. Today we have over two thousand registered women all over the State. We have started Local
Government Enlightenment Tour to woo more women to our midst and propagate your ideals and principles to
them, visited AC appointees in the Government that includes Chief Williams Igweh the Special Adviser to the
Governor on inter-party Affairs and Chief Ibiamu the Hon. Commissioner for Special Duties. An NGO that brought
in some Indian Doctors put together by Dt. Kamakshi Memorial Hospital involved in expanding the frontiers of
Health Care to the rural invited and treated the Rivers State AC Women Team free of charge at Enugu of various
aliments. We have visited and donated goods to the less privilege in the State. Participated in the recently concluded
Women Conference in the State organised by the Organisation of the African Instituted Churches (OIC). We are
determined to prove a point and make AC the party of the people of Rivers State and the party to beat in any other
election in the future.
Permit us Sir, to formally congratulate you for the great reception accorded our National Leader, Alh. Atiku
Abubakar the former Vice President of the Federal Republic during his recent visit to the State. That visit has aptly
demonstrated that you are an enigma and the best Leader we have ever had in Rivers State AC. You are a God gift
to the people of Rivers State and we are proud to be associated with you.
We appreciate the fact that you are the major Financier of all the major activities of AC in the State, we plead with
you not to relent as Oliver Twist permit us to make the following demands all the same. We need help in these areas
to assist us in the propagation of the gospel of the new AC under your leadership- 1 Empowerment of women. 2.
Assisting the women through provision of Loan to uplift their businesses. 3. Uniform for the stakeholders and
officials of the Women Wing. 4. The need of enlightening the Local Government Chairmen to carry along the AC
members in view of what is obtainable in the unity government at the centre.. 5. Appointment of an AC Woman in
the Cabinet. We believe and trust in you and we know that the Lord will give you the wisdom to do all that we have
requested for as we ask God to continue to guard and led in all your endeavours”.
Prince Tonye TJT Princewill the Rivers State AC Leader in his response thanked the Dr Edith Wele led Women
Wing for the visit and stated that he is relying more on the AC women to restructure and revigorate the party to
meet up with the new challenges of a great party in the State. He praised them for the prayer initiative, which may
be the major obstacle why detractors and enemies of the party have not succeeded in hijacking and destroying the
party. He emphasized that the State and the Government need much prayer to succeed in salvaging the State from
the hands of those so determined to project the State as a State of criminality, kidnappers and militancy which totally
contradicts the true picture of our people as peaceable people. On the demands of the Women he stated ‘ I am
aware of the much sacrifices the women as a Group have made in keeping the party intact and still remain steadfast
not minding that nothing has being done to appreciate all these sacrifices. I will from now onwards take a special
interest in the activities and wellbeing of AC women in the State.. In this regard, I will provide a bus to assist you in
your enlightenment campaigns.
Two, I will liaise with the Commissioner of Finance to see how the AC women can access the Finance credit
Facility of over N2B being provided by the State Government to alleviate poverty in the State. Thirdly, I will
purchase an donate wrappers and other necessary accessories for 150 women comprising of all the State
Leadership of the wing both past and present, the Local Government Coordinators and their Secretaries amounting
to over ten Million Naira. I will like to urge the women to set-up a Committee to present a budget to me so that the
women can organise a befitting Christmas party for all the members of the party in the State. All these that I have
stated will be provided and executed before Christmas this year”. The speech attracted thunderous applause from
the women who danced, sang, prayed, and turned the event to another marathon prayer session. The AC first lady,
Mrs Rosemary Princewill phoned in from London to express her thanks to the women for all the support so far
rendered to her husband and urged them to remain steadfast, as the future is very bright for all of them
The program came to and end with a paper presentation by Mrs Stella Uzoka the Financial Secretary of KEROPPED
a branch of NUPENG in the PPMC who lectured the women on the need of investing in PPMC products and other
sectors instead of purchasing of wrappers and spending their money in unproductive ventures now that the AC
Women Wing wants to raise formidable Women Others that spoke to encourage the Leader and the Women includes
Barr Mrs Ibiso Briggs the first National Legal Adviser of Action Congress, Haija Aisha Bello the Hausa Community
AC Women Leader in Rivers State, Engr. Mrs. Ngozi Edward the State Women State Secretary, Comrade Elizabeth
Okpobiri the Market Women AC Leader and Mrs Grace I. Johnbull the immediate past Women Leader in the State
among others.
