After Failed Presidential Bid, Okorocha Emerges Imo APC Guber Candidate

Oyewale Oyelola – Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state who came fourth in All Progressives Congress presidential primary held in Lagos on Thursday, has emerged as governorship candidate of APC in Imo state.

Okorocha was adopted on Thursday by party’s delegates at Imo International Conference Centre, Owerri.

It would be recalled that Imo APC chapter postponed the governorship primary election last week.

Our correspondent gathered that the gubernatorial primaries was postponed to allow Governor Okorocha pick the ticket, if he fail to emerge as APC presidential candidate.

There were speculations  on Tuesday that the son-in-law of Gov Okorocha and Imo Commissioner for Lands and Urban Planning, Uche Nwosu was  adopted as party’s governorship candidate as a place holder for the governor.

Nwosu who later withdrew from the race said his decision was based on personal and family reasons.

Speaking before the ratification of the Governor’s candidature, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Mr. John Alamba said that the party had the power to substitute any candidate that withdraws from the race.

Governor Okorocha who is seeking reelection will face PDP governorship candidate and deputy speaker of the House of Representatives,  Hon Emeka Ihedioha and others in February 28, 2015 governorship election.
