Less than one week after a fatal road crash which claimed the lives of over 15 persons along the Enugu Onitsha old road, another fatal road accident occurred Wednesday in Abia State South Eastern Nigeria, leaving seven persons dead, while several others sustained injuries.
The accident, which involved a Hiace commercial bus and a truck, occurred along Aba-Enugu Expressway.
Sources told AFRICAN EXAMINER Correspondent that those who sustained various degrees of injuries were rushed to Amachara General Hospital in Umuahia South Council Area of the State.
It was gathered that the bus with registration number ENU 683 XC and a MACK Truck XC 654 Owerri occurred at about noon.
An eyewitness told our Correspondent that the two vehicles colluded while the drivers were trying to overtake each other, around Amaigbo junction.
The source said the victims and the injured were evacuated by the officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
Confirming the incident, Abia State Sector Commander of FRSC Rindom Kumven, said the injured were receiving treatment at Amachara while the remains of the dead ones have been deposited in an undisclosed morgue.
The Abia FRSC boss however, warned drivers against dangerous overtaking, stressing that they should always adhere to traffic rules and regulations guiding safe driving.
