AFRICAN EXAMINER gathered that the policemen also seriously injured four of the six-man gang during the gun battle.

A resident of the community who doest not want to be quoted in print said: “The armed robbers had just robbed residents of the community, and were on their way home when the police patrol team ran into them.

“They opened fire on the policemen, who equally returned the firepower, but unfortunately, four policemen died.”

In his reaction, the State Commissioner of police  Alkali Usman, who confirmed the incident, claimed that only one policeman was killed.

He added that the other officers who sustained fatal injuries were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba, for medical treatment.
