Bayelsa Government Begins Public Sector Reforms

(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – The Bayelsa State Government has commenced a comprehensive ‎ public sector reform as part of measures to re-jig the system and make it more viable for rapid growth.

This was one of the disclosures made shortly after the 80th State Executive Council meeting which took place in Yenagoa on Wednesday.

Briefing newsmen shortly after the meeting, the new Commissioner‎ for Information and Orientation, Daniel Iworiso-Markson said the decision to begin the reforms is hinged on the desire of the government to inject more life in the public sector.

He explained that it is the hope of the government that the initiative of the programme will achieve its full objective when fully implemented and urged all Bayelsans to support it.

‎Iworiso-Markson also disclosed that three reports were presented to Governor Seriake Dickson from the Tertiary Education Advisory Committee, Committee on Policy on Public Primary and Secondary School Funding and Staffing and the Local Government Policy Reforms Committee.

The Commissioner added that the government will study and appoint an implementation ‎committee which will be followed by the pronouncement of the governor in a broadcast on  comprehensive measures and new policy direction to be taken on the reports by government.

Flanked by the new Commissioner for Education, Hon. Jonathan Obuebite, Iworiso-Markson used the opportunity to call on Bayelsans to continue to support the restoration government and thanked ‎them for the solidarity so far.

Obuebite on his part expressed happiness at the vision of Gov. Dickson to appoint a competent hand to take over from him and assured that he will give all his best in his new ministry, same way he did in the Ministry of Information and Orientation.
