BREAKING: At last Obasanjo Dumps PDP, Tears Membership CardFeatured, Latest News, Nigeria 2015 Election Monday, February 16th, 2015
From Funmilayo Omidiji, Abeokuta – Former Nigerian President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has withdrawn his membership of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The former Head of State on Monday during the declaration at his Abeokuta hilltop mansion, Ogun State, torn his PDP membership card.
Chief Obasanjo who had been in the last one year, critical of the President Goodluck Jonathan-led administration, said he would prefer to remain an elder statesman instead of staying in the ruling party.
The ex-president has last week in Nairobi, Kenya declared his support for the opposition APC Presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari.
Chief Obasanjo also last weekend accused President Jonathan of unwillingness to hand over power and plot to opt for the former Ivorian President, Laurent Gbabgo’s tactics as well as installing an interim government.
The accusation drew spontaneous and offensive attacks from the PDP and President Jonathan’s aides.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State chapter of the PDP in an apparent showing of disgust to Obasanjo’s action has expelled him from the party. The expulsion came some hours after his (Obasanjo) announcement.
