Updated: Dozens Killed In Fresh Gombe Motor Park Explosion


By Audu Limun – Dozens of people were reportedly killed in the latest Gombe Motor Park explosion which went off at about 9 am, Monday.

The Dukku motor park in Gombe town, is usually a busy motor park as passengers traveling to all the eleven local government go through the park.

It could be recalled that this is the third explosion in Motor Park in Gombe within the spate of 2 months.

Meanwhile, the Gombe State Police Command has confirmed that 19 people dead while 25 others injured.

The Command’s spokesman, DSP Fwaje Atajiri told newsmen that when the explosive went off, the Police immediately went to the scene and cordoned the area.

Alhaji Abubakar Yakubu who is the Secretary of the Red Cross said he was at the scene of the blast and he personally identified 20 dead bodies and 18 injured persons few minutes after the explosive went off.

He said most of the causality are torn into pieces and beyond recognition as they conveyed both the dead bodies and the injured persons to the Federal Medical Centre Gombe, Gombe State Specialist Hospital and Musaba Clinic, adjacent the scene of the explosion.

According to an eyewitness and a driver operating at the park, Ibrahim Likita, he personally saw 21 dead bodies being evacuated after the blast occurred some few minutes before 11:00 am, when a Sharon bus was being loaded with passengers for Bajoga.

Another eye witness who did not disclose his name stated that a lady accompanied to the park by an unidentified male had left her hand bag in the vehicle and went out to escort the man and was being expected back to the vehicle to take off when the explosion occurred.

The eye witness who claimed to have participated in the evacuation of the dead bodies and those injured said he counted 10 bodies apart from those whose bodies were torn into pieces beyond recognition.

Mallam Ibrahim Mamuda alias Danladi Black also told Journalists that in the past, security checks were being carried out at the entrance of the park but had long been stopped before the unfortunate explosion.

Gombe, the Gombe State capital has in the past few months recorded terrorist attacks at the Gombe Line Motor Park, the residence of the State Governor, the Nigerian Army 301 Artillery Regiment Quarter Guard and recently the Dukku Motor Park which has claimed many lives.
