Breaking News: 37 PDP House of Rep Members Decamp To APCFeatured, Latest News, News Wednesday, December 18th, 2013
Report reaching us says thirty-seven Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members of the House of Representative have decamped to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmakers said they are joining the APC due to division and factionalisation within the PDP.
They claimed that their defection to APC is in obedience to section 68 subsection 1G of the constitution.
Among the defectors are the Chairman, House Committee on Publicity, Mr. Zakari Mohammed, from Kwara State and Dakuku Peterside from Rivers State.
Tambuwal read out the names of the defectors on the floor and stood up to acknowledge their decision to abandon the PDP.
The 37 members are from the states of Kano, Sokoto, Bauchi, Kwara, Rivers, Katsina and Adamawa. These are some of the states that their governors recently decamped from PDP to APC.
With this development, the APC will now have 174 members from its initial 137, while the PDP will have 171 from its initial 208.
There is likelihood of leadership change in the House as some APC members are already hell-bent in effecting some changes among the principal leaders in the House.
However, the APC is yet to have a simple majority in the House as it requires 181 members.
