You can’t vote in 2011, Jega tells Nigerians in Diaspora

Members of Nigerians in Diaspora stormed the office of the Independent National Electoral
Commission (INEC)  on Tuesday arguing that Five million Nigerians abroad are ready to vote
during next year's elections.

The members who paid a courtesy call to the INEC chairman Prof. Attahiru Jega at his office, in
Abuja   said they are ready to vote with their passports.

Prof.Jega on the other hand commended Nigerians in Diaspora but stated that they could only
vote in future elections.

He further stressed that his primary focus now is to get Nigerians at home registered to enable
them participate in the forthcoming election.

Prof. Jega, 5million votes can make or brake an election so think again.

Ignatius Chukwu,  PH
Sir,
I agree that Nigerians abroad should not be involved now. First, we all know that
riggers use results from far-flung towns such as Sokoto and creek towns such as
Soku (Rivers) and Nembe (Bayelsa) to cause last minute bombshell. Now, they
will use results from abroad as last minute upsets. Second, since we must file
numerous cases after election, there would be legal tangle proving votes from the
Diaspora. When we test the digital voting system at home and get it right, we can
now go international. Charity and fraud must begin or remain at home.
Thanks
