In 2008 NDLEA arrested 90, seized 108.8kg of drugs
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested about 90 suspected drug traffickers
with cocaine worth 108.865 kilogrammes in 2008 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The estimated street value of the cocaine is N324 million.
The suspects were nabbed on their way out of the country
through the Abuja airport. According to the NDLEA airport
commander, Alhaji Hamza Umar, “85 of the suspects are
males while 5 are females.
Six out of the arrested drug suspects packed 10.1kg of drugs
on their bodies, one hid 950 grammes inside shoe sole, 4
others inserted 5.20 kg into their anus and virgina while the
remaining 69 ingested 91.75 kg of cocaine.”
He warned that the airport command under his leadership would incapacitate drug dealers through arrests
and seizures of drugs. “We know how much drug barons have lost from the drugs so far seized, but unless
they give up their trade, we shall continue to arrest them, seized their drugs and prosecute them,” Hamza
said.
The last two suspects caught at the Abuja airport were Chibuike Sampson, 31, arrested on November 20
and Umeri Donatus Ebere, 34, who was arrested on December 4.
