EDO, NIGERIA (AFRICAN EXAMINER) – The aspiration of the Edo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship candidate Pastor Ize- Iyamu, has suffered another major setback as its Egor Council area Chairman, ward chairmen, women leaders, among other officials decamped to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
They decampees dumped PDP on Thursday with hundreds of their supporters.
In his remarks on behalf of other defectors, the ex- PDP Chairman, Hon. Promise Igbinevbo described the PDP as a leopard that never changes its spot because it lacks the capacity to do so.
According to him, the party, was not interested in the development of the state, rather, want to plunge Edo into decay like they did years ago.
He alleged that the PDP leaders in the state were self-centred and not people-oriented,
“With full sense of humility and responsibility, I believe physically and tactically, we are all here to bury the PDP.
“I want to let you know that myself, serving ward local government leaders and executives across Egor local government area, join forces with the Comrade Governor and support the APC candidate, Mr. Godwin Obaseki.
“I have to let you know, I don’t bow down for people because of money, I bow down to people with heart of gratitude, integrity.
“I want to let you know we bowed to Oshiomhole because of his previous works in Edo State.
“Sixteen years of PDP, we are all aware, in the state there was no road, no market, no school, no job, no electricity, no hospital, but when the comrade governor came on board, everything changed.
“I am aware of their game plan but it will not come to pass. I want to say I stand here to declare myself and my followers to the APC, and I want to let you know we trust the APC; they never promise and fail,”
Receiving the new members, Governor, Oshiomhole, alongside the APC governorship flagbearer, Mr. Obaseki, described the defection as a season of planting.
He said: “the PDP is finished; there is nothing left” welcoming them to the APC family in Egor council Area.
The Governor assured the new APC members that they would be fully integrated into the activities of the ruling party.
