Embattled Ondo Deputy Governor, Ali Olanusi At Last Impeached

By Akin Soneyin – The embattled Ondo State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Ali Olanusi has been impeached by the State House of Assembly.

His impeachment at the early Monday morning plenary session, was carried out by 24 out of the 26 members, who supported the sack motion.

The impeachment motion was moved and seconded by the House Majority Leader and Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Henry Akinsoyinu and Hon. Oyebo Aladetan respectively.

Hon. Akinsoyinu claimed that the seven alleged gross misconducts against Olanusi – the grounds of his impeachment have been confirmed, by the seven-man investigative panel constituted last week by the State’s Chief Judge, Justice Olasehinde Kumuyi.

The panel headed by Mr. Olatunji Adeniyan submitted its report to the House earlier Monday, before the plenary started.

After the motion was moved and given the required support, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Jumoke Akindele, adopted it and declared the former State Governor’s impeachement. She also directed that the sacked DG should hand over all the government’s property in his possession.

The Monday plenary session was not attended by the two opposition APC lawmakers.

It would be recalled the sacked Deputy Governor’s Counsels, last weekend put up argument that Alhaji Olanusi could not appear before the panel as he was out of the country for a medical check-up.

The former Deputy Governor’s travails started around mid-last month when he defected from the ruling PDP to the opposition APC.

Meanwhile, the State’s Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko has nominated for screening and confirmation by the House of Assembly, Commissioner for Agriculture Alhaji Lasisi Oluboyo as Olanusi’s successor.
