Emergency Rule: CAN wants Boko Haram Amnesty Committee Dissolved

With the declaration of emergency rule in Borno, Yobe and
Adamawa states in Northern part of Nigeria, the Christian
Association Nigeria (CAN) urged the president to immediately
disband the Boko Haram amnesty committee.

“The declaration of a state of emergency in the three states, the
amnesty committee is no longer relevant and should be dissolved,”
CAN President Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor stated this in a statement
issued in Abuja.

Pastor Oritsejafor who praised President Jonathan’s decision stated
that the emergency rule vindicates CAN’s position that “no
reasonable agreement can be reached with terrorists.”

His words: “the declaration of a state of emergency in three
northeast states is a justified action and a vindication of CAN’s
position that negotiation with terrorists will always end up a futile
exercise.

Christians in the North have largely been hit by attacks orchestrated
by the Islamic sect Boko Haram killing many and injuring several
during church services.
