FROM IGNATIUS OKPARA, Enugu – The All progressive Congress APC governorship candidate in Enugu state, Barr. Okey Ezea, has accused the Peoples Democratic party, PDP of using imported political thugs and police to unleashed mayhem on his party members at a polling unit in Igboeze South council Area of the state.
African Examiner Correspondent covering the polls, had earlier reported that heavily armed thugs alleged to be working for the PDP, disrupted accreditation of voters for the saturday’s governorship/ House of Assembly polls at the community primary school Itchi Uwani polling unit 1, in Igboeze South council Area .
The area is believed to be one of the strong holds of the APC guber hopeful, who also hails from the community.
Speaking to newsmen at the troubled polling unit, Ezea, who looked tensed up, said when he got the hint of alleged importation of over 1,000 thugs into the state by the PDP, he alerted the Army and police authorities, regretting that nothing was done about the information by the security operatives, until the hoodlums came to attack the APC members.
He alleged that the thugs stormed the polling unit in company of some policemen from the government house who drove in a government marked vehicle
According to Ezea, apart from disrupting the accreditation exercise, the thugs also descended on APC members, including his uncle Mr. Paulinus Ugwu, whom he said, sustained some injuries.
An eyewitness told reporters that immediately the hoodlums arrived the polling unit, they chased away the electoral officers made up of mostly National Youth Service Corp members, NYSC and made away with some of the sensitive electoral materials.
