Ex-Super Eagles Coach, Keshi’s Burial Service Begins in Benin


EDO, NIGERIA (AFRICAN EXAMINER) – The final journey of the late Super Eagles Coach Stephen Okechukwu Keshi has started with a funeral Mass at the St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Airport road Benin, the Edo State capital.

Keshi, a former Skipper of the senior National team was conveyed to the service with centre ‎aisle of the church alongside his children, family members and friends who trailed in procession behind.

The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Amaju Pinnick led the delegation of the glass house to the burial. The State’s FA Chairman Mr. Frank Ilaboya, Keshi’s former team mates, including Austin Eguavoen among others were also present.

It would be recalled late Keshi died at age 54, midnight of Wednesday, June 8, 2016‎ in Benin without reported incident of any ailment.

Early in the year, Keshi lost his wife Rita overseas after a long battle with cancer. The late Coach death was however shockingly followed about a week after by another former Coach of the Nigerian senior team, Amodu Shaibu, who also hails from Auchi, Edo State, South South Nigeria.
