Fayemi, Fayose Meet, Promise to Work Together

Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, and the Governor-Elect, Mr Ayo Fayose on Monday met with a promise to work together for the progress of the state.

The duo, who met at the Governor’s Office, Ado-Ekiti, said Saturday’s election in which Fayose emerged winner, had set a good example for the country to emulate.

Fayemi, who on Sunday invited Fayose for the meeting, promised to avail Fayose and his team all the necessary support that would make for a smooth transition from his administration to the incoming one.

“It is the will of the people that must be respected. I believe that as democrats, we must walk our talk and strengthen democracy by our actions. Some people say that my acceptance of defeat is uncommon in this country, I have to do that.

“Elections generate tension and if in the process of campaigning, we threw verbal missiles at each other, we must set that aside now. We must not do anything that will make our state suffer.

“To me Ekiti State is victorious by the example we have set. We have shown to the world that we can do it. It is not by size, but by the good lessons we want others to learn from our examples,” he said.

He congratulated Fayose on his victory and prayed that he would have a successful tenure.

Earlier, Fayose said he was happy with the governor’s gesture of calling him for the meeting, saying it was time for reconciliation in the state.

“Whether in or out of office, Governor Fayemi remains a leader in our state. I am impressed by his show of sportsmanship and his spirit. The time we are now is for reconciliation.

“We are all winners and must do everything possible to move our state forward. I am appealing to our supporters not to distract us or cause disaffection. I am ready to work with everybody in order to move the state forward,” Fayose said.
