Fayose dumps PDP, moves to work for opposition
He is electoral liability- Ekiti PDP
By Oludare Sunday Fase/USA

A former governor of Ekiti state under the platform of the ruling Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP) Mr Ayo Fayose has dumped his party over what he described as ''an
herculean task for me to market Segun Oni''

Mr Fayose said in a letter to the National Chairman of PDP in Abuja that he would
follow the majority rather minority, adding that the power that  brought Segun Oni to
power then were fraudulent, obviously by the then Obasanjo’s administration.

Our source from Ado Ekiti said that Fayose vowed to work against Segun Oni in
the re-run election, a development that some political analysts said might cost the PDP
the bye-election.

The Fayose’s letter read thus:-

“I honestly appreciate you and your Executive for the invitation extended to me to state
my grievances as it affected our Party at both the State and National levels. I also
appreciate all the discussions held at the meeting. Those discussions propelled the
visit of some Party Executives to visit Ekiti State.

“The chairman will recall that I signed a three-page agreement at Abuja and that I had
assurances that the agreements would be implemented. But, surprisingly, the
agreement, on getting to Ado-Ekiti had been stood on its head and the outcome was
never in line with our Abuja agreement.

“At the time of the agreement signing under reference, I knew it would be an Herculean
task for me to market Segun Oni alongside other Party Leaders, especially so,
considering the negative predisposition of the average Ekiti electorate towards Oni in
the event of a re-run election. The circumstances that brought Oni to power were
manipulated and the Party is aware that Oni is not on the ground.

The Party is aware of all the harrowing experiences I have hitherto gone through in spite
of my labour of love within the Party. Even up till now, apart from the non-compliance to
the agreement referred above, the Chairman will agree that it is difficult to sell Oni to the
electorate.

“My opinion is that the Chairman should have the benefit of diverse information:
(i) Oni has not sought my opinion for the re-run election;

(ii) I have brought Segun Oni's two years into focus and come to the conclusion that he
is a non-starter and that he has no clues about governance, and I consequently find it
difficult to be part of his electioneering campaigns with the following reasons:
(a) Today, Ekiti electorates are not ready for Segun Oni. As an individual, I do no want
to labour in vain. Oni does not have what it takes to lead Ekiti State;

(b) As a prominent citizen of Ekiti State, living among the populace, I am more than
convinced that the electorate will not vote for Segun Oni even in the event of the
application of force as it is being touted around, I want to equally say that I am not
disposed to working against the wishes of the common people of Ekiti Stare. Therefore,
I want to be excused by the Party as I do not want to work contrary to my conscience.

"An honourable person will want to go with the majority rather than the minority, even if
he does not stand to benefit, personally. I wish to temporarily step aside from the PDP
since my views will not go down well with the Party hierarchy at the present moment."

Meanwhile, the Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has
described Mr Fayose as electoral liability, saying his moves against the PDP is not a
threat to the forthcoming re-run elections in the state./end
