LAGOS, NIGERIA (AFRICAN EXAMINER) – After 19 years of his death, Nigerian Afrobeat exponent Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s memory remains alive, as the children, fans and human rights activists Tuesday gathered and marked another historic remembrance anniversary.
His children including the eldest son, Femi and his sister, Yeni in the mood of anniversary, cast their mind back and showered accolades on their father, on social media, in particular, on his many confrontational encounters with the successive Nigerian government.
Femi on his Instagram account shared: “19 years since the passing of our father FELA we LOVE U WE MISS U VERY MUCH.”
His sister Yeni, also wrote on her Instagram platform with some Fela pictures depicting brutality he suffered in the hands of security operatives: “Nineteen years ago our Icon father, leader and father of the Nation left the world stage.
He lives in us forever and continues to guide and protect us. That is why Nigeria didn’t go to war against all predictions. Rest in peace Fela. We miss you.”
“The powers that be, beat him mercilessly. Fela they can’t touch you now o!!!! Useless people”.
Writing on his Instagram account, their younger brother Seun recalled: “19 years a god. 19 years an Orisha. 19years an ancestor!! And by the way the Egypt 80 is still kicking ass!!!” with the picture of Abami Eda (the strange one) in smile.
