BALTIMORE, MD (AFRICAN EXAMINER) – At last, FIFA President Gianni Infantino has been given a clean bill with regard to alleged wrongdoing and misconduct in his previous dealings with the world Football body
Infantino is being investigated by the FIFA’s ethics Committee over his expenses, recruitment and alleged sack of whistleblowers.
The Committee in its latest submission said it did not find any “conflicts of interest” as well as breaches of the organization’s ethics code against the new FIFA boss.
The committee restated “The benefits enjoyed by Mr Infantino were not considered improper”.
“Mr Infantino’s conduct with regard to his contract with FIFA, if at all, constituted internal compliance issues rather than an ethical matter,” the ethics committee added.
In his reaction to the verdict, Infantino said he was pleased and thanked all the parties who co-operated with the ethics committee to ensure that the facts were unraveled and “the truth prevailed”.
The hint about Infantino’s investigation by the FIFA’s ethics committee was made public last month.
With the decision, the former UEFA Secretary General was said to be “very confident” and hopeful that no further action would be taken against him as the old accusations were considered by the the FIFA ethic committee “absurd” and “baseless”.
Infantino, a Swiss lawyer was elected after the sack of three term FIFA President, Sepp Blatter. The Former FIFA head was sacked owing to allegations of financial misconduct, and abuse of privileges of office.
