By Ganiyu Nasirudeen – The wife of the outgoing President Goodluck Jonathan, Dame Patience has confirmed she suffered a serious health challenge and had a major surgical operation in Germany in January while the Presidential electioneering campaign was on.
Mrs. Jonathan, disclosed this Sunday, while she was speaking during a farewell service organized by the Aso Villa Chapel, in honour of the President’s family.
The outgoing First Lady revealed that the health hazard was so severe, such that she sneaked out of the country to Germany in January to undergo one major surgical operation, adding that the entire arrangement was put out of public glare, as well as so coordinated for her to take the last flight in the evening to Germany, so that she could attend the rallies scheduled next afternoon.
After the first, she stated that she was scheduled for another round of surgery after election, but recalled surprise later happened. According to her, after going through tests in four different hospitals in Germany on her return, the outcome certified her state of health was perfect, hence the surgery was declared no more necessary.
At the farewell service, which is the last to be attended by President Jonathan’s family, special thanksgiving and commendation service were held inside the Villa’s chapel.
The President, at the service, later led his family in dance, to the altar for a special thanksgiving to show appreciation to God, on His mercies since he has been in power almost six years ago.
The Aso Villa Chaplain, Ven. Obioma Onwuzurumba, in his sermon, titled: “To God be the Glory,” joined the Jonathans in giving gratitude to God for keeping the family all through their tenure.
