Fresh Cholera Outbreak Hits Bayelsa, Kills 6 In President Jonathan’s LGA


FROM IGNATIUS OKPARA, Yenagoa – At least, Six people including a woman, have been reported dead in Balyesa state, following a new outbreak of cholera disease in Ologi community of Ogbia council Area of the state.

Nigeria’s President, Goodluck Jonathan is from the affected Ogbia local government Area.

Several people, including children and women in the community are presently in terrible condition as a result of the epidemic.

African Examiner recalled that the disease was earlier reported in Southern Ijaw and Sagbama council areas of the state, with death toll hitting 30 in the two local government areas.

The member representing Ogbia constituency II in the State House of Assembly, Obedient Emoto, who confirmed the new outbreak to newsmen on Thursday, said the development, had thrown the affected community and its neighbourhood into anxiety.

He said the development sparked fear and brought suffering to the people.

The lawmaker however, warned that unless urgent steps were taken, it could claim more lives as well as spread to neighbouring communities.

The lawmaker appealed to the state Ministry of Health to urgently send epidemiologists, health personnel, and drugs to curb the epidemic in the community.

 

 

An official of the ministry of health, who craved anonymity, said health personnel and drugs had been dispatched to the affected area, with a view to contain the spread of the disease.
