The German Government has expressed its readiness to partner with Nigeria
to boost the provision of energy in the country.

Mrs Dorothee Jentzke-Wenzel, the German Ambassador to Nigeria, made this
known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in
Abuja.

Jentzke-Wensel said that Germany and Nigeria, as federal republics that
believed in unity in diversity, should tap each other’s potentials.

“Germany for example has a lot of experience and potentials in the renewing of
energies which has a big advantage.

“The advantage can be created, generated and decentralised since it contains
smaller projects and it is faster.”

Wenzel said that her mission was to build a strong Germany-Nigeria
partnership to improve the power sector through the establishment of a bi-
national commission.

“We have been having an energy partnership for a long time now, but we need
to energise it a bit; that’s what we are trying to do with the bi-national
commission.”

She further explained that  the bi-national commission would provide a platform
for both countries to sign a Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation and
partnership.

The ambassador said that the embassy was currently working with
communities to provide water and vocational training facilities among other
projects.

“We are looking at certain places and conditions we think is our responsibility
to help and see how water resources could be brought closer to the people.”

Wenzel expressed the commitment of the German Government to promote
development and eradicate poverty in the country.
