Illegal Arms: FG Drags Former NSA, Dasuki To Court; Granted Bail


By Ganiyu Nasirudeen – Former National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd), has been arraigned by the Federal Government (FG) before a Federal High Court, Abuja on one count of illegal possession of firearms.

In his brief ruling Tuesday morning, Justice Adeniyi Ademola granted the ex-NSA bail on self-recognition after he pleaded not guilty to the alleged charge.

The alleged crime committed by Dasuki contravenes provisions of 27(1)(a)(i) of the Firearms Act, Cap F28, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

Further to his ruling, Justice Ademola admitted Dasuki’s application for bail and subsequently ordered that he should withdraw his diplomatic passport as well as his traveling documents to the Court’s Deputy Registrar, Litigation.

Similarly, the jurist ordered that any traveling documents, belonging to him and which might be currently in the custody of any government agency be retrieved and forwarded to the court.

Dasuki  is accused of possessing firearms, without licence.

The arms included: five Tavor riffles, 20 magazines, five rifle slings, five packets of servicing kit, one packet of MOD AP9 Cal 9mm Luger No. 033373, a magazine containing 16 rounds of 9mm ammunition and bigger magazine containing 23 five rounds of 9mm ammunition.

The next hearing on the matter is October 26 and 27 this year.
