The Delta state police command have arrested a 39 year old man, a carpenter, simply identified as Gbenga, for defiling a two-year-old girl (names withheld) in Okpanam, Delta state
According the police, the little girl is now receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital in Asaba, the state capital.
The suspect’s unholy act was uncovered when the little girl started experiencing pains and was taken to the hospital for medical check-up.
Gbenga, who works as a carpenter at the compound of the victim’s parents, reportedly committed the abominable act when the parents were away from home.
Delta state police Public Relations Officer, PPRO Celestina Kalu, who confirmed the incident to newsmen on Tuesday, said the suspect would face the full weight of the law at the end of investigation.
The command spokesperson, also disclosed that the command has rescued a kidnapped teacher, one Mr. Abemu, of Oruodo Primary School.
According to her, the victim, who is now receiving treatment, was kidnapped last Sunday at Oviere in Ethiope East Local Government Area of the state.
Kalu said officers and men mobilised and blocked all exit routes in the area and went after the hoodlums.
Hear her: “The patrol team caught up with the hoodlums at Utiuyo village, in Okpara, where the criminals, on sighting the policemen, opened fire on them.”
“In the ensuing gun battle, one of the hoodlums was fatally wounded while the rest suspects escaped, and the victim was rescued.”
The PPRO however assured that the fleeing suspects would soon be smashed.
