Ayo Balogun, Lagos – Following the postponement of the election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the collection of the Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) to 8 March to allow more people to obtain their cards.
This was contained in a statement issued by the body and signed by its Secretary, Augusta Ogakwu on Monday.
INEC said it hoped that the extension would give those who had not collected their PVCs to do so in order not to be disenfranchised in the coming poll.
The commission had on Saturday postponed the general elections from February 14 and 28 to March 28 and April 11 due to what it called security reasons.
INEC said security chiefs have told the commission that it could not guarantee security during the polls.
INEC’s Chairman, Athahiru Jega had told a press conference that the commission had no choice than to postpone the election because the security chiefs have said they could not guarantee security during the polls.
