Iyabo Obasanjo writes senate over Ogbomosho’s rift,
*demands 'due respect' for senators
Oludare Fase/USA/Nov.21, 2008/African-Examiner
The last may not have been heard about the political crisis in Ogun-state
culminating in an encounter between the daughter of Nigeria immediate past
President Senator Iyabo Obasanjo and Gov. Daniel on Nov. 15, 2008 at a wedding
ceremony in Ogbomosho .
Sen. Iyabo
Obasanjo had
forcefully
clashed with a
member of the
state security
service (SSS)
attached to
Ogun-state
governor at the
church service
of the wedding
ceremony of
governor Alao
Akala’s
daughter.
In a letter written to the Senate panel probing the encounter, Iyabo Obasanjo
claimed she was assaulted by a member of the SSS (Mr. Patrick Osakwe) attached
to Gov. Daniel adding that it was the security guy who first grabbed her hand and
pulled it back.
She said ‘during the church wedding of Governor Alao-Akala’s daughter, I was
assaulted by a member of the State Security Service attached to the governor of
Ogun State, who claimed I had knocked the governor’s head while dancing during
the thanksgiving service.’
Sen. Iyabo also denied that it was not true that she hit the governor in the head
while dancing during the wedding ceremony as she demanded ‘respect and full
recognition’ for serving senators.
Meanwhile, the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged both Iyabo
Obasanjo and the Gov. Daniel to ceasefire adding that separate meetings would be
arranged with both parties with a view to resolving the rift.
Many of the governors’ supporters have condemned Sen. Iyabo’s action describing
it as affront on the office of the governor.
African Examiner gathered that the rift between the two politicians is not
unconnected with governorship election in 2011, as Senator Iyabo Obasanjo riding
on her father’s back set her eyes on becoming the next governor of Ogun state
while the incumbent want to install his stooge in continuation of the tradition.
