I'm not under pressure to rig 2011 election -Jonathan
President Goodluck Jonathan says he is not under pressure to rig 2011 election, even as
he assured that "no one can rig the election."
The president further said in a statement issued by his spokesman Ima Niboro that he
places high premium on conducting free, fair and credible elections next year.
Niboro's statement was a swift reaction to a media report that alleged that President
Jonathan is “under pressure to give assurance to those canvassing for zoning that he must
rig the elections in favour of the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP) so as to protect the
interest of the clique and ensure that (General Muhammadu) Buhari does not win the
presidential vote”.
The statement partly reads thus;
"We want to make it abundantly clear that the President is under no pressure whatsoever
over the 2011 elections. He has made it clear that there will be credible elections next year,
and so far has taken decisive steps to actualise this vision. He has given unequivocal
support to the agency in its search for the most viable strategy to achieve excellent delivery
of the next elections, and has told INEC leadership publicly that no one has “tied their
hands”, and therefore “there is no excuse for failure.
"We find it strange for anyone to be talking about rigging at this time of our political
evolution, for those days are gone... they are dead and buried! The President urges all
Nigerians to join hands with INEC to ensure that in the next elections, our votes count.
Nigerians must speak with one voice and defend their votes."

The truth now is that there is no one to be trusted now in Nigerian's political
hierachy including Goodluck Jonathan. This is because, greater number of
Nigerians are under the siege of poverty and no help seems to be coming. We
are hungry especially at the rural areas. So any body can always come and offer
them tokens or whatever and b4 you know it election is rigged. Furthermore, PDP
has never in any way been of good example throughout 10 years of ruling. GEJ
should try to do something that make Nigerians clamour for him should he want to
run for the next election. But for others that want to contest believe you mean,
they have no good records and Nigerians cannot be deceived again. God bless
Nigeria.

President Goodluck Jonathan is God sent. He is showing enough zeal to conduct
a free, fair and credible election. I wish he will go a little further and encourage
credible people all over the federation to join the race, and also try to resist the
temptation of contesting.
