Kebbi Govt Faults Shalla’s Sack, Insists He Remains Authentic Speaker

From Mustapha Abdul Salaam – The Kebbi State government has condemned last Thursday impeachment of the Speaker of State House of Assembly, Alhaji Hassan Shalla.

Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Garba Rabiu Kamba in a statement over the weekend, described the development which he indicated was carried out by a faction of the house, comprising 12 out of 24 members, as illegal and unconstitutional, since the House is currently on recess.

The SSG pointed out that the State Government was conscious of the fact that Aminu Musa Habib Jega was removed as Speaker of the State’s House of Assembly on November 27, 2014, culminating in legal action, seeking his removal as well as cconsidering “the decision as unconstitutional.”

Kamba stressed that, by their action, the factional lawmakers have pre-empted the decision of the Kebbi State High Court, as well as aimed at causing disaffection and truncate smooth transition of government due to the recent election.

The State Government, he added, was awaiting the judgement of the High Court, therefore, Shalla’s sack lacked legality, insisting that Government would continue to recognize him as the House Leader.

SSG called members of the public to continue to be law abiding as well as continue with their normal daily activities, while the State Government would provide measures to ensure peace and orderliness were maintained across the State.
