Man Commits Suicide In Benin

EDO, NIGERIA (AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Residents of Ogida in Benin city, the Edo State capital, South- South Nigeria, were thrown into shock weekend, as a middle aged man in the area allegedly committed suicide.

Immediately the news filtered into the air, the residents rushed to the scene to catch a glimpse of the man who was found hanging from the ceiling of a sawmill in the market.

Some neighbours said they saw the deceased earlier in the day wandering in a sober mood, not knowing that he had concluded plan to commit suicide.

AFRICAN EXAMINER gathered that he did not leave a suicide note behind.

However, loaves of bread, clothes and cooked beans were found beside his lifeless body.

Meanwhile, the Edo State Police Command has confirmed the incident.

Its spokesman, Theodore Okafor, told newsmen, in Benin, the Edo State capital that the deceased remains had been deposited in an undisclosed hospital mortuary in Benin city for a post-mortem, while efforts are being made to locate the family members.
