Security has been beefed up around the famous Kuje Prisons within the
Federal Capital Territory following the remand of a serving member of the
National Assembly, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume over alleged links with
the Boko Haram sect.

Ndume who was earlier remanded in the custody of the State Security
Services, SSS, at the onset of his trial, was however relocated to the Kuje
Prisons this week, at the instance of his lawyers.

Security sources disclosed that considering the nature of Ndume’s alleged
offence, he may be exposed to harm if adequate security measures are not
taken to protect him.

The SSS had requested that the senator be remanded in its facility to shield
him from probable security threat arising from the nature of his alleged offence
which bothered on national security.

The Kuje Prisons also has other high profile detainees who are facing
terrorism charges.

Some of the detainees according to our source include, Charles Okah
(younger brother of the leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger
Delta, Henry Okah), Edmund Ebiware and Tiemkemfa Francis Osvwo.

Although details of the new security measures were sketchy, it was gathered
that besides restriction of the movement of the detainees within their
respective cells, there is now pronounced security presence around the
gargantuan complex as fierce looking gun wielding personnel were
strategically positioned to ward off any security threat.

It was gathered that security agencies would not take chances over possible
attack by members of the Boko Haram sect or any of other group linked with
any of the high profile suspect.
