The traditional rulers through the Chairman of the Abia Traditional Rulers Council, HRM, Eze Eberechi Dick also conferred the revered title of ‘Ugo Ngwa II” on the Senator who is gunning for his third term in the Senate on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

It could be recalled that Nigeria’s first indigenous Speaker of the House of Representatives and Senator in the Second Republic, Late Senator Jaja Wachuku was the only other Ngwa holder of that title as ‘Ugo Ngwa” for his political exploits.

At an enlarged meeting of the council in Obingwa, Abia State, the Monarch’s chorused that Abaribe is not only a top-most and successful Ngwa politician but one that has brought honour and respect to his people.

“He will be the only Senator representing Ngwa people in the next dispensation. We are announcing here today that we are unanimously endorsing him as Oha Ngwa sole candidate. For that reason we are directing our people to shun any opposition and troop out en mass to vote for him. We are confident that come March 28 victory will be his.

“Abaribe is our son who has internal love for Ngwa land and has made sacrifices for the political liberation of our people. He is also the most qualified now to receive the revered title reserved for our great sons and daughters in politics.

“Now is pay back time and on this score, we are not only endorsing him as our sole candidate but shall confer the title of ‘Ugo Ngwa II” on him as Ngwa’s foremost and fearless politician after the late Dr Jaja Wachuku”, said Eze Dick.

Responding, Senator Abaribe accepted the title, which ceremony would come at a later date; saying he was humbled by the endorsement of the royal father’s, which means that the whole Ngwa clan is with him all the way.

He gave a rundown of his political struggles and exploits for the political emancipation of the Ukwa-Ngwa, which spans through his days as a Deputy Governor and currently in the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Continuing, Abaribe said today he is a happy man for the fact that at long last the struggle to see an Ngwa son becoming governor of Abia State would soon be a reality.

“I am grateful for this honour, which to me is a true testament of the recognition of my humble contribution to the development of our land. I will not disappoint you. I will not disappoint our people”, he said.
