Buhari Urges Nigerians to Support Measures To Ensure Credible ElectionsFeatured, Latest News, News Wednesday, December 9th, 2015
President Muhammadu Buhari has called on Nigerians to support all necessary measures to ensure free, fair and credible elections in the country, including the use of card readers and Permanent Voter Cards (PVC).
Mr. President made the call Tuesday in Abuja while receiving members of the newly elected Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) Executive Committee in his office.
Buhari who submitted that more effort was needed to perfect the conduct of elections in the country, told members of the IPAC that it was regrettable that the electorates in some parts of the country were deprived the use of card readers and PVC during the last general elections, despite the enthusiasm that followed their introduction into country’s electoral system.
Citing recent elections in Kogi and Bayelsa States, President Buhari in a statement by his SSA on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said it was unfortunate that there were reports of awkward electoral attitudes.
While thanking the IPAC EXCO on the visit, as well as their strong support for his candidacy in the build-up to the 2015 presidential elections, the President congratulated the newly-elected Chairman of the organization, Mallam Bashir Yusuf, who is also the Chairman of the opposition Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM).
Mallam Yusuf pledged the group’s support to Buhari’s fight against insurgency and corruption in the country and reaffirmed IPAC’s belief in the unity, progress and indivisibility of Nigeria.
