In order to avert his imminent expulsion, the national chairman of Nigeria’s ruling
people’s Democratic Party, PDP Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo has resigned.
The embattled chairman showed up at the venue of the emergency National
Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party to tender his letter of
resignation.
The party had summoned the NEC meeting to examine the conduct of Dr.
Nwodo during the just concluded presidential primaries of the PDP.
Mr Nwodo had attempted to preside over the primaries midway despite a court
injunction from Enugu state barring him from parading himself as the national
chairman of the PDP.
Those against him in the party had argued that his conduct contravenes article
12 of the PDP constitution.
African examiner gathered that the party has begun moves to shop for Nwodo’s
replacement as three politicians from the south east were said to have been
shortlisted.
A source in PDP headquarters said those shortlisted are the former senate
president Ayim Pius Anyim, former Governor of Ebonyi state Dr. Sam Egwu and
former Foreign Affairs minister Chief Ojo Maduekwe.
Dr. Nwodo has been having a running battle with the governor of his home state
Sullivan Chime over who controls the party's machinery in the state.
Meanwhile, the National Executive committee (NEC) of Peoples Democratic
Party, PDP has accepted the resignation of Dr. Ekwesilieze Nwodo.
The NEC ratified Nwodo's resignation at its emergency meeting in Abuja
attended by Preident Goodluck Jonathan, his vice President, some State
Governors and National leaders.
The NEC has also appointed the National Deputy Chairman Bello Mohammed as
the acting Chairman pending the election of a substantive National Chairman.

Poor Nwodo. Failed to realise early enough that he was brought in to be used after
which he has to be discarded. It's part of the PDP magic. Goodluck to those yet to
realise the game plan ahead of time.

very unfortunate. Though he wanted to sanitize the party but was highly
misunderstood. He paid the prime price of reformation. The people from this area
never recognize a prophet from home.I sympathize with him.
