Ogun Police Boss Urges Gov. Daniel to Steer Clear of
Internal Matters of the State Assembly
By Oludare Sunday Fase in Abuja published April 20, 2009
The police commissioner of Ogun state Mr S.A Hamishu has urged Governor
Gbenga Daniel to stay away from the internal affairs of the house of assembly with
a view to resolving the ongoing political crisis in the state.
The police commissioner gave this advise when he appeared before the senate
committee on public petitions and privileges investigating the petitions that was
brought to the senate by senator Iyabo Obasanjo who is also an interested party in
the crisis.
According to Hamishu ‘the genesis of the crisis in Ogun state was because the state
assembly removed the governor’s loyalist Hon Titi Oseni as the speaker of the
house assembly”
He said the for the peace to reign in the state, every parties to the crisis should
shelve their ego and stay within the limit of their constitutional responsibilities.
The CP also revealed that the crisis has not enable them to hold the usual security
meetings in the state following refusal of both the governor and the state lawmakers
to resolve their differences.
All assurances that the house is safe for the lawmakers to conduct their legislative
business did not go down with the senators because the police boss failed to
convinced them that the amount of the police men at state assembly could quell
hoodlums that might be sponsored to attack the lawmakers during their sitting.
On his own part, the speaker of the assembly Hon. Tunji Egbetokun told the senate
committee that the Gov. Daniel has been starving them of fund for the smooth
running of the house saying he (Daniel) has refused to release money for both
recurrent and capital expenditures since the crisis broke out.
He also frowned at situation where the governor said all the speaker’s security
should be at all times stepped down in any public function involving him and the
speaker adding that the governor claimed that his (speaker) security men could
shoot him.
This apparently did not go down with the speaker on the ground that the governor’s
security men too could shoot him.
Meanwhile, the speaker has ruled out the possibility of sitting outside the state
saying there was no such plan at the moment.
You would recall that the state has not known peace since the state assembly
impeached the former speaker Hon. Titi Oseni who is allegedly loyal to the governor.
To this end, the governor has refused to work with the new elected speaker Tunji
Egbetokun insisting that the old speaker be reinstated.
