Otedola Presents USD50,000 Cheque to Chukwu For Treatment Abroad

(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Nigeria’s business mogul, and chief Executive officer (CEO) of Forte Oil, Chief Femi  Otedeola has fulfilled his promise of footing the medical bills of ailing ex-super Eagles coach, Christian Chukwu, as he presented a cheque of 50,000 (fifty thousand dollars), about 18, million naira  to the family for his treatment abroad.

Chukwu, who has been down for quite some time, with a life-threatening ailment was recently hospitalised in a private medical facility in Enugu where he spent several weeks before his discharge.

Patron of Ex- Rangers Inter. FC, and a US based businessman, Chief Benson Ejindu, who recently made Chukwu’s deteriorating health condition public, had said the living soccer legend needs about 50,000 dollars for treatment abroad.

Shortly after the information was made public, Otedola promised to pick the medical bill of the Enugu state born football icon.

Presenting the cheque on Wednesday to Chukwu’s immediate family on behalf of forte foundation at his Enugu residence, the chief operating officer, Forte oil, Mr. Phillip Akinola said the 18 million naira is to assist the 1982 former Green Eagles Captain undergo proper medical attention abroad.

In his remarks, president of Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Amaju Pinnick, who accompanied the oil magnate alongside Enugu state governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and chairman of. Enugu state football Association (FA) Hon. Chidi Offo Okenwa said “we are here to acknowledge a super living legend.

“A legend that if you mention his name everybody shakes; a legend that has paid his dues for the polity called Nigeria, a legend that we love so much, a legend that would not be allowed to die, a legend that his name is already in the annals of history in Nigeria.

“We believe that if you call Christian Chukwu and confine him to Enugu state government, you will not be doing him any good because even Nigeria as a country is too small to accommodate him.

“The NFF from the beginning decided that we will be part of this. There were mistakes in the past, but we have decided it will not happen again, hence we have decided we will acknowledge our legends at all points in time our legends; it’s not when they pass on we will say oh he was a good man.

According to the NFF boss, “the Cheque  is basically to take care of his medical surgery, on our part, we don’t want him to go to USA, we want him to go to England, we have already made arrangement with two hospitals because we still want him around and we will do everything within our resources to ensure he gets the best treatment.

Amaju hinted that in the next two weeks, Chukwu would be flown to the United Kingdom (UK) for treatment.

Governor Ugwuanyi, had during the visit, announced the offering of an automatic employment to Chukwu’s eldest son, Engineer Christian Chukwuemeka, in the state ministry of works.
