From Collins Amadi – The Rivers State opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship campaign train Friday moves to Eleme local government area of the South South State, with the candidate, Dr. Dakuku Peterside noting deprivation and neglect of the enclave by the Federal government (FG), but announced a five point revival agenda if elected next month.
Dakuku who thrilled his huge and very organized audience with his eloquent presentation, informed that he came to the local government with messages of hope, peace and of prosperity and blamed the FG for injustice visited on Eleme and Okrika residents.
The APC Governorship candidate assured his administration would go on the path of justice and equity.
His five points programme included: industrialization of the council which plays host to the Nigerian Oil Empire – the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and Eleme Petrochemical; provision of effective health care; agricultural revolution; education advancement and women empowerment.
On industrial development, Dr. Peterside promised his administration would rebuild infrastructures with intention to connect the council with the rest of the world. He promised to tackle flood challenge, which he noted had remained with the community for long.
Still on industrialization, the APC candidate promised he would influence presence of more petrochemical industries, so as to create more jobs and massive economic empowerment.
If elected, Dr. Peterside stated his government would promote and grow agro science for the benefits of businessmen and women in the council.
He added that since the council contributes immensely to the national oil revenue, he would continue with the ongoing capital projects, his predecessor has embarked upon. He stated issues concerning women would receive adequate attention of his government if elected. Peterside equally explained that effective health services in the council would be improved and sustained.
Dr. Peterside who urged Eleme natives to vote the opposition’s Presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) and all the party’ candidates in the council in the general elections.
While promising the council that its natives would be involved in discussion by his government on the way to develop the community, described the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a party without ideas, focus, violent and solely relied on rigging.
He urged the residents who have promised over 90 per cent of vote from the council to the APC, to troop out on Saturdays February 14 and 28, 2015 to vote massively for the party and police their votes.
A total of 3000 of the PDP members in the council announced their defection to the APC and were formally received by the State party’s Chairman.
