Nigeria Moves  to Invest 320 billion naira annually  to reform
Nigeria Police -Bankole
By Oludare Sunday Fase/ Abuja

In view of the porous security situation in the country, Nigerian government  has
begun moves to invest 320 billion naira annually for effective policing in the
country.

The speaker of the house of representatives Dimeji Bankole who disclosed this
during the sitting of the house said the 320 billion naira would be spent annually
for the spread of four years.

Still on the police inefficiency, the chairman of the house of representatives of
police affairs Abdul Ningi said the “police is under-funded, ill equipped and lack
proper training to combat crimes in the country”.

Ningi suggested that  both state and local governments should be involved in
funding  the police to ensure its effectiveness.

The lawmaker said  that the Nigeria police is monumentally corrupt adding that
urgent intervention is required to address the poor security situation.

The police issue came up on the floor of the house of representatives during the
debate on the case of armed robbery siege in Anambra state, south-east of
Nigeria.

The robbers were said to have snatched a bullion van and killed about 30
innocent residents of the state while the operation lasted for about two hours.

African Examiner gathered that the case of armed robbery attack is a national
problem as armed robbers often strike for several hours killing helpless innocent
citizens while police are no where to be found.
