Presidential Poll: 36,204 Security Personnel, Gun Boats, Helicopters Deployed In Lagos


No fewer than 36,204 security officers, gunboats, helicopters and others have been deployed to Lagos State for Saturday’s Presidential election.

This was disclosed by the Lagos State Commissioner for Police, Kayode Aderanti at a news conference on Thursday.

Aderanti, at the press conference, which also has in attendant, the Lagos Resident Electoral Commissioner, Akin Orebiyi said that 36,204 security personnel would be deployed across the state for election duties.

He added that the security officers would be used to man the land, sea and the air with motorcycles, trucks, armoured personnel carrier, gunboats and helicopters.

The Police boss assured that the police had put in place efficient security arrangement for voters to perform their civic responsibilities during the elections, as the Police Command was ready to put troubles makers where they belong.

According to him, there would be no violence of any sort on that day, vowing to deal ruthlessly with anybody who violated the Electoral Act.

“Nobody should stand close to the election centre after casting his or her vote. It is expected for all voters to move 300 meters away. Our men are ready to deal with any would-be-trouble maker and anybody caught will be prosecuted and jailed,” he said.

He said media practitioners, oil workers, and others on essential services would not be restricted from movement during the period after proper accreditation as movement is restricted between 6am and 6pm on Saturday.
