Mrs. Uche Ekwunife, the member representing Anaocha Dunukofia Njikoka Federal Constituency has asked Federal High Court in Awka to recognize her as the authentic All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate in the last November 16 governorship election in Anambra State.
She went to court to challenge the candidacy of Willie Obiano and contended that going by the double registration status of Obiano at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as an electorate; he is not qualified to contest the November 16 gubernatorial election.
Ekwunife is seeking among other reliefs, that INEC should be compelled to recognise her as the candidate of the party for the November 16 governorship election in Anambra State, based on Obiano’s double registration.
She alleged that Willie Obiano was registered in Lagos and Anambra respectively, which amounts the double registration as stipulated by the Electoral Act.
The suit number HC/Awk/CS/281/2013 was instituted at the Federal High Court in Awka. Others joined in the suit are the APGA and INEC.
Ekwunife was the runner-up to Willie Obiano during the gubernatorial primaries of APGA, and had complained over the conduct of its governorship primaries which she alleged was flawed with large-scale rigging and manipulation, as the lists of delegates for the primaries were changed.
