Reps disagree with Jonathan on Super Eagles Ban
*want ban reversed

The House of Representatives has urged President Goodluck Jonathan to reverse the
ban on the national team from participating in international tournament for two years.

The call was contained in a motion sponsored under  matter of urgent national
importance by a member  from Benue State, Emmanuel Jimeh

In presenting the motion, Jimeh said the president’s ban on the national team from
participating in international events for two years would have negative effect on young
Nigerian footballers, even as he expressed fears that FIFA may hammer Nigeria for
mixing football with politics.

Jimeh, though agreed with the president on the widespread of corruption in the Nigeria
Football Federation (NFF) and the World Cup Organizing committee,  noted that
withdrawing from tournament for two years would only worsen the crisis facing football
in the country.

In a majority voice vote, the Lawmakers urged the president to rescind his decision on
the ban while asking its committee on Sports to investigate alleged corruption in the
NFF and why the Super Eagles performed poorly in South Africa.

The President had on Wednesday declared that Eagles would not participate in future
international events for two years due to the dismal performance of the Super Eagles
at the ongoing FIFA 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

The Presidential spokesman, Ima Niboro said ‘’Mr. President has directed that Nigeria
will withdraw from all international football competition for the next two years to enable
Nigeria to reorganise its football’’

Meanwhile, mixed reactions have continued to trail the presidential ban on the national
team. Those who supported the ban claimed it was a wise thing to do to save Nigeria
football from further degeneration.

While those against the decision, said that banning of Eagles from international events
would be counterproductive, and could attract the wrath of FIFA, the world football
governing body.

However, Nigerians, including members of the House of Representatives are
unanimous on the urgent need to purge the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) of its
alleged corruption and misapplication of funds and grants from FIFA.

i am totally against the president action on baning international football for two years,
every body no the problem of nigeria football which is corruption and lack of good
plan, i believe this should be addressed to save the young nigeria whose their life
totally depend on football

I support the Reps' position.  Banning wouldn't solve it but a dissolution of NFF, NFL
etc; then appointment of SiaSia as National Coach and the likes of Okocha,
Odegbami, Ikpeba etc as Minister of Sports and members of these dissolved bodies.
Then groom the Sani Emmanuel squad for Nations and World cup.
