The Enugu state Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old security guard identified as Gideon Musa for allegedly raping a 9-year-old girl to death in Enugu, the state capital.
Our Correspondent learnt that the suspect, who is a security guard near the victim’s house, took the teenager to a nearby bush and raped her to death.
However, father of the deceased, Mr. Edwin Ode Ominiyi of Umuchigbo, a community in Abakpa Enugu East council Area, was said to have reported the disappearance of her daughter to the police.
Confirming the incident on Wednesday, the state Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ebere Amaraizu, said the victim, according to her father suddenly disappeared at about 1 pm, which resulted to search and subsequently filling report to the police.
Following the report, Amaraizu revealed the security operatives swung into action and spread their tentacles within the arena and its environs.
“A search was, however, intensified by the father, who was also assisted by the suspect. It was gathered that while the search was on, the suspect, who it was learnt was pretending to be assisting, but was rather diverting their search to another direction until a clue was made available to the police operatives that the man was last seen around with the victim before she was declared missing by the parents.
“Following this clue, Gideon Musa, a security guard, popularly known as Aboki Maiguard, was invited, quizzed and later confessed that he took the victim to a nearby bush where he had the carnal knowledge of her until she became unconscious and fainted.
“He further revealed that when the victim fainted, he had to run out from there, abandoning her and never knew what was her state. He was, at that juncture, asked by the operatives to take them to the place and as they got there, the lifeless body of little Endurance was seen lying naked with blood gushing out from her private parts”, the Police Spokesperson narrated.
Meanwhile, Police has confirmed that the state’s Criminal and Investigations Department has commenced full scale investigations just as the body of the deceased has been deposited at the Parklane Hospital Enugu for autopsy.
