Anti-Jonathan Sermon: Rev. Father Mbaka Told To Stay Away From Politics

IGNATIUS OKPARA, Enugu – The youth wing of the apex Igbo socio cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has described the recent message of the fiery Catholic priest, Rev. Father Ejike Mbaka of the Adoration ministry, Enugu against President Goodluck Jonathan as “not only vexatious but inciting”.

A press statement signed by its national president, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, made available to African Examiner on Wednesday in Enugu, said “Mbaka as a man of God should have stayed away from politics and concentrated on winning souls for God”.

The group said Mbaka “does not understand the issues he dabbled into and he appears to be under the prodding of fifth columnists.

“His followers expected him to give them spiritual food but he is now giving them a spiritual poison. Does he possess the facts and figures he was dishing out” they asked

“Why should he blow hot and cold? The first lady visited him and showered earthly blessings on him and he extolled the Jonathan’s regime only to turn back to incite the polity against him. What kind of contradiction is that?”

“Any way, he spoke for himself and not Ndigbo or the Christiandom. We call on the Catholic High Command to look into this grossly political statement from Father Mbaka to find out his real motive.

Reverend Father Mbaka in his recent sermon whitewashed President Jonathan administration describing his administration as failure even as he lamented that the president surrounded himself with “very corrupt public officials”.

His sermon reads in part:

“Jonathan has ruled for six years. We need change. The power sector has not worked because of corruption, insisting that Jonathan’s government is ineffective.

“The privatization of public companies has not yielded any fruit because of corruption. Jonathan has surrounded himself with very corrupt officers who advise him.

“Nigerians are sick and tired of wasting innocent lives without government doing enough to stop the destruction.

“Up till now, nobody knows the whereabouts of the innocent Chibok girls kidnapped by Boko Haram, and we say we have a government that cannot guarantee the welfare, safety and security of the citizens.”

“The men of God only go there to dine and wine with the leaders for their own welfare without telling them the truth. But I’m happy that I, Father Mbaka, I’m not that type of priest. If you want money, I dash you money because the God I serve has blessed me abundantly.

“I don’t know Buhari. I have never sat with him before. I am not being partisan, but I want total change in Nigeria.

“Buhari cannot make Nigeria an Islamic country because we are in democracy. It was IBB government that dragged Nigeria into OIC.

“When Buhari fought corruption, people became careful about their actions anyone who says Buhari will islamise Nigeria is not being fair”.

“If a Northerner will rule the country and insecurity will stop, so be it, If a Yoruba man will rule Nigeria in 2015 and we have peace and stop the shedding of innocent blood, so be it Nigerians are tired of wasting innocent lives.

However, the group further advised the Reverend Father “to concentrate on his spiritual activism and stop dabbling into politics.”
