Wayne Rooney Okays Southgate For England’s Job

BALTIMORE, MD (AFRICAN EXAMINER) – England Captain Wayne Rooney has canvassed for confirmation of the club’s interim Manager Gareth Southgate.

While justifying his call, Rooney stressed: “He’s done all he can and I’m sure he’s the frontrunner; From my point of view, he’s in pole position.”

Southgate secured his second win in three matches as his side beat Scotland in a World Cup qualifier at Wembley.

England came on top of Group F, after four matches. The Manager said he “loved” his time in charge but added the decision for confirmation of his appointment was beyond him.

It would be recalled Southgate took charge of the side for four games – which will end with Tuesday’s friendly against Spain – in the wake of former Manager Sam Allardyce’s exit.

Southgate affirmed he has delivered on the Football Association’s plea to “keep the country top of the group”, adding that England’s use of the ball was “fantastic” in spells against Scotland.

Southgate, 46, is also believed to be the favourite of the bookmakers for the England’s job.

England do not play another qualifier until they host Lithuania on 26 March.
