(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – The governor of Anambra state, Chukwuma Soludo, has stated that the detention of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, is not linked to the insecurity in the south-east.
The African Examiner writes that recently, there have been calls for the release of the IPOB leader as many stakeholders are of the opinion that the release of Kanu will address the rising insecurity in the geopolitical zone.
Soludo, speaking on Monday in a media chat to mark his third year in office, stated that the release of Kanu may not end the insecurity in the south-east.
“The release of Nnamdi Kanu, for me, is different from the issue of security. I separate the two, I don’t link the two,” he said.
It is worth recalling that the IPOB leader has been in detention in the Department of State Services (DSS) since his extradition from Kenya in June 2021. He is presently facing terrorism charges.
