BAGHDAD, IRAQ (AFRICAN EXAMINER) – No fewer than 70 Shia pilgrims were Thursday killed in a truck bomb attack at a road block in Iraq.
The eruption occurred at a gas station and restaurant near al-Hilla, some 100km (60 miles) south of Baghdad, the Iraqi capital.
Officials said the road stop was full of people returning from the Arbaeen pilgrimage in the city of Karbala.
Most of the victims were Iranians and Bahrainis.
The so called Islamic State (IS) group has claimed responsibility. It also claimed that the death toll was over 80.
